Costumes Parisiens at The Chester Beatty Library

Writing in the Journal des Dames et des Modes, (issue no.11 on 10th September 1912), Lucie Delarue-Mardrus noted: “if it were simply a matter of clothing oneself, fashion would certainly not exist. But it is above all a matter of attiring oneself, and whoever says attire says ornament, and whoever says ornament says art… So, ladies, be stylish. It is a great civic duty. Though Notre-Dame is a cathedral, it is nonetheless une dame. May your exterior be also the cathedral of your soul.”

The Chester Beatty Library has a wonderful exhibition celebrating this Parisian fashion magazine. Running until March 30th, Costumes Parisiens has almost 150 of the Journal’s unique fashion illustrations. The exhibition is a vivid record of Parisian culture and fashion in the last years of the Belle Époque.

And bringing us bang up to date is Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring Summer 2014 Haute Couture show in Paris, where he described his inspiration as: “Life is a butterfly! So all the collection is that!”

Predictions for 2014

                    Picture1

By its very nature, the start of a new year heralds lots of predictions and trend alerts. From wearable technology to the death of Facebook, here are some of the things experts are predicting for 2014.

Almost everyone is in agreement that the coming year will be a challenging one for Facebook, as teens turn away from parents and grandparents watching their every move. The overriding feeling among teenagers is that Facebook is no longer cool and kids are using Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat to share photos and stay in touch with each other, away from prying eyes. Sky News is declaring the social network dead and buried (something we blogged about last summer) and The Huffington Post has11 reasons to quit Facebook this year.

Silicon Republic is predicting that the adage “work is what you do, not where you go” will never be truer than in 2014 and Social Media Today is forecasting a killer year for social media and small business with 11 web marketing and social media trends that will shape 2014

For the movies buffs among you, Movie Insider is predicting a year of sequels and remakes and Pinterest has a world of fashion trends. The BBC asked its panel of experts for the big news stories of 2014 and the International Business Times takes a look at the travel trends for the coming year. Wherever 2014 takes you, have a good one! And, whatever your resolutions, just remember…

Happy Christmas to All

Happy Christmas to all. We love this video from WestJet, a great idea which really captures the festive spirit…

Anchorman 2 – The Legend Continues

We’re big Anchorman fans at The Right Angle and very excited by the cast’s appearance on tonight’s Late Late. Apparently, our very own Bryan Dobson gets a standing ovation from the guys.

The promotional blitz around the movie has seen viral marketing reach what Variety magazine calls “pandemic proportions”. So much so, that the screen time Will Ferrell has chalked up promoting the movie in character, rivals his time in the film itself.

Lily Allen for John Lewis

When it comes to Christmas commercials in recent years, none is more anticipated than the one from John Lewis.

This year sees Lily Allen make her musical comeback with a cover of Keane’s 2004 single ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ played over an animated woodland tale, which sees a hare make sure his best friend the bear wakes up from hibernation to experience the magic of Christmas morning.

The campaign uses hand drawn animal animations designed by the team who worked on Disney classics such as The Lion King. It’s cute and already has over 10 million views on You Tube, but at a whopping £7 million, it would also need to be very effective…

TBEX Europe 2013

The world’s travel bloggers, writers, and new media content creators will be descending on Dublin this Thursday and Friday for TBEX Europe 2013. To celebrate the occasion, Le Cool has created a once-off issue.

And to give them a flavour of what to expect, this video from The Gathering was shown to all TBEX North American attendees in May

Tifamade

We love this from Tifamade – sandwiches and cakes on two wheels. Tiffany Iung started delivering sandwiches in and around Paris in 2010 when she was looking for a way to combine her two passions: feeding people and riding her bike.

It’s homemade food with ingredients carefully chosen from the farmer’s market, all wrapped up in ecological packaging. The sandwiches and cakes are presented in a lovely old suitcase, which is very cute indeed.

It’s the first time since the annual measure was created 13 years ago that Coca-Cola has been knocked off the top spot – the soft drinks giant slipped to third, with Google taking second place.

TATE

A visit to the TATE in London is always good fun. On our last trip we picked up a copy of this print from Nicholas Munro, which now hangs happily in our office.Sheep 1970 by Nicholas Monro born 1936
