Anchorman 2 – The Legend Continues

We’re big Anchorman fans at The Right Angle and very excited by the cast’s appearance on tonight’s Late Late. Apparently, our very own Bryan Dobson gets a standing ovation from the guys.

The promotional blitz around the movie has seen viral marketing reach what Variety magazine calls “pandemic proportions”. So much so, that the screen time Will Ferrell has chalked up promoting the movie in character, rivals his time in the film itself.

Lily Allen for John Lewis

When it comes to Christmas commercials in recent years, none is more anticipated than the one from John Lewis.

This year sees Lily Allen make her musical comeback with a cover of Keane’s 2004 single ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ played over an animated woodland tale, which sees a hare make sure his best friend the bear wakes up from hibernation to experience the magic of Christmas morning.

The campaign uses hand drawn animal animations designed by the team who worked on Disney classics such as The Lion King. It’s cute and already has over 10 million views on You Tube, but at a whopping £7 million, it would also need to be very effective…

Planning for 2014

We’re busy planning for 2014 and it got us thinking about upcoming events. From the Winter Olympics to the World Cup in Brazil, it’s going to be a sports focused year.  And there’s lots to get marketeers thinking as well; find out the marketing trends that could impact on your business with the Forbes list of 14 critical brand and marketing trends for 2014.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the Rubix Cube, the Liberty Science Centre is hosting an exhibition entitled Beyond Rubik’s Cube. In March, People magazine celebrates 40 years in business and teen girls’ magazine Jackie will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

In the US, it’s 50 years since the US TV quiz show Jeopardy! was first broadcast on NBC and September will see celebrations to mark the 200th anniversary of The Star Spangled Banner. In film, October 2014 will mark 50 years since My Fair Lady premiered in New York.

Closer to home, 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of  Dubliners by James Joyce and 50 years since the death of Irish playwright, novelist, poet and short story writer, Brendan Behan. The Feile Brian Boru will mark the 1,000th year anniversary of the death of Brian Boru and 2014 also marks the 10th anniversary of the smoking ban in Ireland (a world first, remember).

And in the film world,  we’re very excited at the prospect of the LEGO movie, due for release early next year. Here’s a little clip of what to expect…

The death of Nelson Mandela has sparked world wide tributes, including this essay from Bono writing in Time. Billboard has compiled 10 musical tributes to the iconic political figure and the Springboks released this video to mark the passing of a legend.
